Introduction to Astrology... Astrology - a much misunderstood philosophy? Science, Theosophy? Many have tried to disprove astrological findings and as a result have found themselves so fascinated and intrigued that they become students and advocates. St. Thomas Aquinas, patron saint of the Roman Catholic Church wrote, "The celestial bodies are the cause of all that takes place in the sub-lunar world." Throughout the Bible, both Old and New Testament, there is evidence of the knowledge of astrology. Although warnings as to the proper use of astrology appear in the scriptures, no prohibition of the study of astrology can be found anywhere. Rev. John Butler, rector of Litchborough (England) was so displeased with the way astrology was taking hold of the minds of men, set out to discredit it. After much reading which intrigued him and led him to further study, he declared, "I find that next to theology, nothing leads me more near unto the sight of God." (Dal Lee) Dr. Carl Jung noted psychoanalyst once observed a person is of the vintage of the time he was born, and like the year of vintage wine, cannot be changed. When the Constitution was written the time for elections and inaugurations were set for times that would be favorable for the United States, astrologically. Four or five signers of the Declaration were astrologers. President Theodore Roosevelt had his chart made by a Chinese Astrologer and when he became President, he had the horoscope mounted on a chess board which stayed on a table in his room at the White House. Mark Twain said, "I was born with Halley's Comet and I will die with it." Upon its return 70 years later, he died. Most Asian countries still use Astrologers and there have been rumors and articles which indicate that Hitler and his associates were using astrologers. It is also rumored that astrologers have been involved in selection of dates for the space launches. There is more to Astrology than just the sun sign. The horoscopes are set up in the papers based on sun position only and transits (movement of planets daily) because it becomes too involved to do anything else.' However, the ascendant is most important since this indicates how you will appear to the public and this is determined by the time you were born. The moon and the other planets also have great influence on each horoscope.
